CCX® has been developed specifically for irrigation projects including canal lining and can be rapidly unrolled to line and remediate bulk water infrastructure. CCX® has excellent impermeability significantly reducing water seepage losses in applications such as canals, waterways and hydroelectric channels.
WHAT IS CCX®?
CCX® is primarily used for lining uniformly profiled erosion control applications. CCX® consists of two interconnected layers of geotextile that encapsulate a specially formulated dry concrete mix. CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) is a variant of CCX® with an LLDPE geomembrane backing which ensures the material has very low permeability.
CCX-M® can be rapidly unrolled to line and remediate canal infrastructure. It is significantly faster, easier and more cost-effective to install than conventional lining methods. CCX® can be hydrated either by spraying or by being fully immersed in water.
As a result, CCX-M® is the ideal solution for the lining and remediation of large channels such as irrigation canals, increasing their operational life and reducing water seepage losses.
CCX-UTILITY® (CCX-U®) is a variant of CCX® without an LLDPE backing. While it is unsuitable for hydraulic applications such as channels, it may be used to line uniformly profiled slopes.
CCX® products exceed the minimum Type II GCCM requirements of ASTM D8364 – Standard Specification for GCCM Materials.

ABOUT CCX-UTILITY®
CCX-UTILITY® (CCX-U®) is manufactured without an LLDPE geomembrane backing. Whilst unsuitable for hydraulic applications such as channels, it may be used for the Armouring/protection of geomembranes and to line uniformly profiled slopes. CCX-U® may be used as an alternative to CCX-M® where erosion protection is required to counteract wind or rain acting directly on the slope only. CCX-U® can be jointed through a combination of screws, adhesive sealant and thermal bonding.

ABOUT CCX-MAT®
CCX-MAT® (CCX-M®) has a 0.3mm LLDPE backing to ensure the material has excellent impermeability. It is primarily used for erosion control and weed suppression of earth covered structures, including berms, bunds and lagoon slopes. Jointing of CCX-M® is typically through a combination of screws, adhesive sealant and thermal bonding. It is not possible to create a certifiable thermally welded joint with CCX-M®.

ABOUT CCX-BARRIER®
CCX-BARRIER® (CCX-B®) has a 1.5mm LLDPE geomembrane liner on the rear surface which enables it to be thermally welded to create certifiably waterproof joints. The geomembrane and GCCM component are connected via a series of nodes which provide virtually unimpaired access to the liner, ensuring ease of access and welding. CCX-B® is used for the certifiable containment of liquids such as lining canals, lagoons and secondary containment bunds and berms.
APPLICATIONS
IRRIGATION CANAL LINING
CCX-M® can be rapidly unrolled to line uniformly profiled irrigation canals. Joints can be thermally bonded
or sealed with an adhesive then attached with screws, to provide a low permeability lining solution.
DRAINAGE CANAL LINING
CCX-M® can be rapidly unrolled to line a uniformly profiled channel. It is significantly faster, easier and
less expensive to install than conventional concrete lined channels.
SLOPE PROTECTION
CCX-M® can be rapidly unrolled to line uniformly profiled slopes. CCX-U® may be used as an alternative
to CCX-M® where erosion protection is required to counteract wind or rain acting directly on the slope only.
CREST PROTECTION
CCX-M® can be used either to line the exposed reservoir crest area or the entirety of the containment surface.

PROPERTIES OF CCX®
LOW PERMEABILITY
CCX-M® has an LLDPE geomembrane backing ensuring the material has very high impermeability, significantly reducing or eliminating seepage losses.
DURABLE
CCX® has a high degree of durability with abrasion resistance more than 3.5 times that of standard OPC concrete.
LONG-TERM PERFORMANCE
CCX® has very good long-term performance with a life expectancy in excess of 50 years.
LOWER CARBON
CCX® is a carbon efficient concrete solution that offers significant embodied carbon reduction compared to conventional concrete linings.
CCX® BENEFITS
RAPID INSTALLATION
The speed of installation and high early strength gain means that infrastructure downtime is minimised. In critical infrastructure, where maintenance shut-down periods are fixed, this allows for much greater areas to be lined or repaired.
REDUCED SEEPAGE
Over time conventional concrete liners can suffer from widespread cracking due to differential ground movement, leading to significant seepage losses, undermining and, in the worst instances, complete channel collapse.
CCX-M® can accommodate a high level of differential ground movement due to the fiber reinforcement embedded within its structure. This prevents crack propagation whilst retaining low levels of permeability.
COMPOSITE SOLUTION
CCX-M® combines the low permeability of a geomembrane with the protection and durability of concrete. It can be installed as rapidly as conventional geosynthetics and 24 hours from hydration will cure to create a hard-wearing concrete liner which is ready to use.
LOW LOGISTICAL FOOTPRINT
CCX® has an un-hydrated unit weight of 3.0-3.2lb/ft² compared to ~45lb/ft² for 4″ of cured concrete. This means it is typically more than 10x more efficient in terms of the logistical footprint, requiring fewer trucks and reducing operational overheads.
FORMATS
CCX® is available in standard Bulk Rolls size. The quantity per roll differs between the CCX® types as shown in the table below.
CCX® Type | Thickness (mil) | Roll Width (ft) | Mass per Unit Area (lb/ft²) | Bulk Roll Area (ft²) | Bulk Roll Length (ft) | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
CCX-U® | 390 | 6.4 | 3.0-3.2 | 1050 | 164 | ||
CCX-M® | 410 | 6.2 | 3.0-3.2 | 1023 | 164 | ||
