What is a concrete channel?
A concrete channel is a diversion channel or draining ditch that lets water flow in and out or convey clean water from one hillside to another.
Suitable for a range of infrastructures and sectors, Concrete Canvas offers effective and sustainable concrete channel drainage solutions for carrying surface water, increasing the protection of land development.
Why use a CC drainage ditch?
- Five times as abrasion-resistant (as OPC Concrete)
- Cost-effective
- Easy installation
- Sustainable concrete channel solution
- Durable and long-lasting
- Suitable for a range of projects
There are many reasons why Concrete Canvas is used as a concrete drainage ditch or channel on existing land and construction sites.
Concrete channels by Concrete Canvas are a rapidly-installed concrete alternative to traditional concrete. Concrete channels prevent weed growth, silt generation and erosion, reducing maintenance requirements and costs. Available in batched, hand-portable rolls, CC can be installed for applications with limited access and comes ready to use – no mixing, measuring or compacting required. CC is BBA (British Board of Agrement) certified with durability in excess of 120 years when used in erosion
control applications.
CC drainage channel or ditch systems are five times as abrasion resistant as standard OPC concrete, have excellent chemical resistance, good weathering performance and will not degrade in UV.

What sectors use concrete channels?
Concrete Canvas is used and trusted by clients from around the world. The unique materials mean that Concrete Canvas is used as an eco-friendly concrete drainage ditch solution to support a range of sectors and community projects.
Previously, Concrete Canvas has been used to line a concrete drainage channel at the side of the M32 motorway in Bristol, where a new bridge was designed and built for bus-only traffic. Concrete Canvas was chosen as an application to line an existing concrete channel for its easy and rapid installation with minimal disruption to traffic and its ability to be applied in wet conditions. In total, over 1,250m2 of CCT2TM was installed in under eight days by eight people in inclement weather, saving a significant amount of time, money and disruption to the project.

How do you install Concrete Canvas drainage channels?
Our team are experts in successfully installing CC drainage channels. Available in batched rolls, Concrete Canvas’ unique properties mean that it’s easy to install. We follow the four principles below for Concrete Canvas installation:
Avoid voids
Prepare the substrate so that surfaces are well compacted, geotechnically stable with a smooth, uniform surface.
Secure CC
It is important to prevent water and wind ingress between the CC and the substrate, both around the perimeter of the installation and along the joints.
Prevent ingress
Concrete Canvas must be joined at every overlap between layers. Those layers must also be fixed to the surface.
Hydrate fully
Concrete Canvas must be fully hydrated, using enough water for the quantity of material used and allowing for drying conditions – Concrete Canvas cannot be over hydrated.

How deep does a concrete drainage ditch need to be?
Typically, a drain depth is around 700mm below the soil surface to allow water to move over the drains. However, Concrete Canvas can be used in any drainage ditch with a greater or smaller depth.
Does Concrete Canvas work in existing concrete channels?
Yes, Concrete Canvas requires minimal ground preparation before it is applied. The unique design and materials of Concrete Canvas make it highly flexible, allowing it to conform to and accommodate existing concrete channels.
How much maintenance does a CC drainage system need?
CC drainage channels require minimal maintenance. Once the Concrete Canvas is installed as a concrete channel lining, it provides long-term protection and effective weed suppression that’s guaranteed to last for more than 120 years – in erosion control applications.
